January 4, 2012 - Change

As I sit here reflecting on all that is happening in life right now I am full of a number of emotions.  I knew turning the calendar to 2012 meant there would be one big change happening in our life and that change is me heading back to work.  Yes W-O-R-K.  As much as I enjoy working and the independence and self worth it gives, I also really, really enjoy...ok love being home with the kids.

This maternity leave has flew by to say the least.  As this reality of going back to work has really hit me today there are a number of things I am really going to miss about the days I've had at home with the boys.  I will miss the days we stay in P.J's until late afternoon, the days we lay on the floor and play, the afternoons we cuddle on the couch and watch a movie or cartoons, the playdates with friends, the look on Corb's face when he hears the door open and Carter say "Who's hear", our afternoon naps on the couch, our trips to the library to get B his dinosaur books and so many many more!

I know that this doesn't mean the end to all of these things, just that they won't be able to happen as often.  I guess this all means that routines will change, priorities or accomplishments in a day will have to be altered and other jobs and daily tasks are going to have to wait so that I can continue to cuddle on the couch to watch movies, lay of the floor and play, take the boys to the library and so much more.  As one wise working mom once said to me "It's not about the quantity of time but about the quality of time you have together." As millions of moms and families do, we will adjust and find our new normal...it will just take time!

With it being the time of year to reflect on what we want to achieve over the coming twelve months, I have vowed to myself not to let myself get caught up too much in work and life happening around us to lose focus on my priorities and I want ensure that our little family stays priority and focus #1 in our life.  I find at times when life is happening so quickly it's so easy to get lost in all that is going on and sometimes priorites fall out of order...not this year!!

(Thanks to a wonderful friend for snapping this picture of me and my boys!!)

Thursday, July 14th - B Bop

B loves climbing all over the couch and usually I catch him using it as a trampoline.  Today when I looked over he was laying on the back watching cartoons. (The picture is out of focus but oh well!!)

Tuesday, July 12th - GREAT Friends

Today was a day of visiting.  Blair headed golfing with good friends Mark and Jeff.  I headed to Weyburn to visit with my cousin and to see their new baby boy for the first time....man Hayden is a little cutie!  Then off to visit Jill and Alexis (who is about a week older than Corbin).  Carter went golfing with his dad and had a GREAT time, B got to stay with Grandma B and really enjoyed his one on one time and of course Corb tagged along with me!

We ended the evening with a great dinner out with good friends Mark and Laura at The Keg.  It was so great to see them and have a wonderful visit! Can't wait to go see them in February!

....thanks grandma and grandpa for babysitting!

Monday, July 11th - Regina Bound & Look at me SIT

Today we headed into the city to do some “vacation” things. First stop was to grab some food then off to Wascana Park for a picnic. I think this is one of the first family pics I have taken using the timer...turned out alright I think.

After the picnic we headed into the Science Centre. The kids had a great time checking out the exhibits and being little explorers! Carla and Guy and the kids joined us there for some fun. Carter loved the hockey exhibit! From there we headed into the IMAX to watch “Born to Be Wild” in 3D. The kids loved it. It was a great movie. Corbin even thought it was pretty neat and watched most of it until near the end. I wish now I would have grabbed a pic of all of us with our stylish glasses on!

We ended a wonderful day with a stop at Carla & Guy’s campsite for supper and of course to roast a couple of marshmallows.

What a GREAT day!! (except for Corb’s hate for travelling at the moment!!) I LOVE summer and vacation...there is a reason why the two words go so well together!)

Corbin is growing so fast! The last couple of days he has started sitting by himself a little without falling over....man where has the time gone!!

Friday, July 8th ~ Rainy Day

As I lay on the couch typing this this afternoon I can hear the rain falling and the thunder rolling.  The oldest two boys are playing in their room and the basement and the tv is off as the satellite signal isn't coming through with the rain.  Blair and Corbin are sitting together looking out the window and all I can hear is Corbin cooing....like he is telling a sweet soft story of his own...then once and a while I can hear a little tap on the window as though he is wondering just what that is.

Oh how the simple things in life are truly the ones most treasured.  Hearing him coo so softly puts a giant smile on my face and makes my heart melt!!
