Tuesday, January 25th ~ Flu....Yuck!

It was an interesting night at our house through the night Monday/Tuesday.  Carter ended up with the flu.  Needless to say him and mom had a pretty low key day at home today.  It's so hard watching the kids when they aren't feeling well!! I do have to say that a couple of times he almost had mom down hanging over the porcelain with him out of sympathy....my good ol gag reflexes are a little high this pregnancy!

On the lighter side, B cracked us up tonight.  It was bed time and needless to say, that does not seem to be his most favourite part of the day!  Since we had the sickness in our house I was washing everyone's bedding and the boys wasn't quite done come bedtime so, we were going to put the boys to bed in our bed.  Well, B didn't think it was time and was being a bit of a pain in the butt!  I was sitting on one couch and Blair on the other and all of a sudden he is covering his face laughing trying to tell B to get back to bed.  Here B has gone into his room, found his brothers sunglasses and thinks that now is a good time to wear these.  Man it was funny, I tried to go put him back to bed and he is laying in bed with his sunglasses on in the dark.....kids!

Outdoor Rink

As promised, here are a couple of pictures from our outdoor skating adventure on the weekend!

Monday, January 24 ~ An Interesting Start to the week...so far

Well as I type this, it is 11:06 a.m.  Yes, still Monday morning and what a day already!  The morning started with B peeing...get this.... on the top of the toilet....needless to say that box of kleenex is now in the garbage...but yes....how does a 2 ft something pee ON TOP of the toilet?? One can only wonder!

Following the pee episode, we continued on with our morning.  Was able to get everyone out the door in time and B dropped off at daycare. (Although I have started my mat leave, the kids are still in daycare until after the baby comes).  Then it was off to do some running around downtown and back home.

Now I am trying to get through to road side assistance to get the van issue taken care of.  Yup 41 minutes and waiting on hold.  Good thing it isn't a real "roadside" emergency!  All I can say is thank goodness for our local mechanic that figured out what it was and gave me the steps to go through to get it fixed!!

Hopefully the rest of the day will be a little more productive and ummm calm!!

Happy Monday everyone!

January 23 - Enjoying the Weather

What a beautiful day today has been. The temperature has been very enjoyable although making road conditions for travel a little treacherous...thank goodness baby decided today wasn't the day!

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and head to the outdoor rink for a little family skate time.  The kids had a great time.  I am amazed at both boys.  How into hockey Carter is and always wanting to learn new things and how well B has taken off on skates this year.  He couldn't even stand on the ice with skates at the start of the year and now he is skating like crazy and having lots of fun.  Sure enjoyed watching the boys and snapping a few pics.  (Haven't downloaded yet, but hope to post some soon).  Uncle Kurt even joined us for the skate.  Carter sure is loving having Uncle Kurt home.

The rest of the day it was a little house cleaning and r&r....just what we all needed!  On the downside, it appears we are having a vehicle issue...nothing warranty won't cover, just not the best timing as we await arrival of baby!

Cheers to a fantastic upcoming week!

January 22 ~ Rink Bound & Date Night

This morning we were off to Oxbow for a couple of exciting 6 & Under hockey games.  Carter is absolutely loving hockey this year.  He is barely off the ice and asking when he gets to play again.  He had two games today in a tournament, the kids looked like they had fun although a little tired by the time they were done.  B enjoyed playing with his toys at the rink and even had a little nap on mom!

Blair and I headed out for what he refers to as the "last supper" before baby arrives.  We dined at our amazing local restaurant The Olive Branch.  It was delicious and we enjoyed the date night time and having uninterrupted by little people conversation.   We both should have rolled out of there but worth every bite!

I ended the night popping by splurge with the ladies.  Always good to have some great laughs and chats with the gals!

January 20 ~ Where has the time gone?

Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted since January 7th!  Crazy!  Well, today is...I guess...the beginning of a new adventure.  It was my last day of work for a whole year, or last official day of work.  That's right....bring on the maternity leave!

I am looking forward to the year ahead but do have to admit I am going to miss work as I love my job!  The next couple of weeks or from now till baby arrives I am sure is just going to fly by as I try to get a number of things done around the house.

So what has been going on in our life the last couple of weeks?  There has been lots of evening meetings, long days at work, hockey, homework and baby preparations.  The kids are getting excited for the baby to come.  Carter still insists that it is a baby girl and Brandon just agrees with his brother.  Time will tell!  We had a cute moment the other night at bedtime.  We had just finished up bedtime stories and we were all laying in Carters bed.  The boys wanted to give the baby a kiss good night and talked to the baby.  They were saying how they were the "Big goofball brothers" and then would just giggle.  Too cute!

Looking forward to tomorrow and seeing the Dr. again...let's hope this baby is starting to maybe think about entering this world in the next couple of weeks!! :)

Friday, January 7th ~ Where did the week go?

Well as you can see .... I guess life in general was busy this week as I didn't have a chance to post (note I did not say I didn't have time as it is all about priorities and unfortunately, blogging took a backseat to getting some rest!).  I will say the one of the pluses this week was getting back into routine.  I never thought that I was much of a routine person until I had kids...now I really really like routine and of course I find my kids need it!
This week saw Blair head back to school, the kids back to daycare, me at work and training my replacement.  Yup, only two more weeks of work for this lady! Wow...Crazy!  The kids have adjusted well back into our daily to do's which they usually do.  I am so thankful that they love the daycare that they go to and can't wait to see their friends.... makes working life so much easier!  I guess we are probably just going to get back into our groove and it will all change as we welcome the new baby!

Speaking of baby, I had my appointment with the Dr. that will deliver today.  I have to say, I am starting to get a little...ummm...I guess anxious is the word.  I just want things to go smooth and am getting excited to meet this little bundle of joy that has been growing inside of me the last 36 weeks.  All is well with the baby, she thinks that it is around 7 lbs right now....now that is crazy!  This weekend, I hope to get the baby room put together and everything washed up and ready.  I don't like to be caught unprepared!  Wish me luck!

I had to kick my butt yesterday after work.  I received a text from my husband that he and the boys were skating at the outdoor rink after daycare and that I should come over and check it out.  Both boys seem to just love skating this year.  Carter has really improved and asks almost everyday when he has hockey again and B has absolutely taken off this year and loves it too.  So I swung by the rink on my way home.  As I was standing out on the ice and the kids were showing me how "fast" they could skate and the goals they could score, it started to snow big white fluffy snow flakes...it was absolutely beautiful out and sooooo pretty!  So why do I kick my butt...I didn't have my camera with me and I didn't run home and grab it.  Definitely a worthwhile picture moment that I missed capturing.  Looking forward to getting my new camera bag that my husband and boys have given me for Christmas so I can carry it everywhere and not miss out on those moments!

Monday, Jan. 3rd ~ Shall We Say Toothless??

What a day for the Carter man.  Carter and Blair headed to the dentist this morning, Blair to get a tooth fixed and Carter for a checkup.  Well, the checkup turned into a filling and a tooth being pulled!  Poor guy.  His dad and the ladies at the office said he did great and didn't put up a fuss at all.  He got to bring his tooth home for the tooth fairy.  The downside, another appointment next week to get two teeth on the other side filled, hopefully the one doesn't need pulled.

As if that wasn't enough tooth drama for the day...upon returning home to show mom, he lost his other loose front tooth somewhere between the dentists office and getting home!  Hmmm....where it went is a mystery!  His dad made a smart comment that he swallowed it and it was going to come out in his you know what.  Well, an hour or so later we had a report that "there's no tooth in my my poop"!  Ahh kids!!

Sunday, January 2nd ~ Baby Room Look Out

Today the big accomplishment was the painting of the baby room.  No, I wasn't painting, but my mom graciously volunteered to come paint for us!  I have to say, I am getting rather anxious to get the room put together and ready for baby.  Below is a picture of the painting, the colour isn't very clear in the picture but it is basically the colour of oatmeal.  I am going to accent in chocolate brown and then once we know boy or girl will add a little blue or pink!
Next step will be painting the baseboards and door and then getting everything moved in! Carter and I were going through baby clothes picking out a few of the neutral items to get washed up.  Can't believe how little those clothes are....so exciting....

B had yet another zipper p.j. day today.  Daycare on Tuesday and actually having to get dressed is going to be such a change for him.  Carter was fortunate to go for a play date at a friends for the afternoon and had lots of fun.

We had mom and dad over for supper tonight and had a good visit, something about BBQ'd burgers and crinkle french fries after lots of turkey and big meals just really hit the spot tonight!!

Journaling...

So after trying to document the month of December and not having huge success with journaling with pen and paper as well as capturing it through photos, I have been pondering the best way to document the upcoming year of our life.  Looking back at different times when I tried to keep an "old school" journal, I kick myself for not following through as there are so many little day to day things that happen in life that you forget about that should be great memories!  After thinking about this for a couple of days I have decided to try to commit to my blog writing daily, this will be our families "journal journey" throughout the upcoming year.  The thing that really resonated with me and this choice is the fact that you can now print your blog in book format.  All in one I can have the journaling and pictures! So wish me luck!!

Goodbye 2010 and Welcome 2011

2010 where did you go?
Wow, I can't believe as I sit here typing that it is January 1st, 2011!  Honestly, where has the time gone??  2010 was a great year with many great memories.  Blair and I had an amazing trip to Montreal, Kingston and Ottawa.  Visiting with family and friends and seeing many amazing sites!

The boys have grown so much throughout the year with many firsts and changes.  C had his first year of baseball "games", went knee boarding all by himself in the big open lake (mom just had a brief moment of panic!!), started Kindergarten and is playing his first season of hockey...among so many other things.  B has changed so much, growing from our little toddler to a little boy, learning how to play "hits" in the back yard, going to daycare without his big brother, peeing in the potty (yay!!), learning to skate on his own...among many others as well.  It truly is one of the best things in life to watch your children grow and become their own person.  I feel very thankful and fortunate to have such a wonderful little family!! I do have to say that I am also so very thankful to be married to such a wonderful husband and truly amazing dad.  I love watching him interact with the boys with the many "dad/son" moments that they have whether it be playing baseball in the backyard, getting their fishing rods ready to head out fishing, or just plain ol wrestling on the living room floor.  I also feel very blessed for the loving families that both my husband and I have.  I can't imagine life without them.  I feel very fortunate to live in the same community as my mom and dad and cherish the opportunity to spend time with them and have them watch my children grow.  I also value the time that I get with my siblings as they generally live a distance from us.  I love seeing how excited the boys get to see them and for our "skype dates".

2011... Exciting Change
I can't believe that in about 4 weeks we are going to be welcoming another human being into our lives.  I can't wait!! This pregnancy has gone SO fast.  Fortunately I have had yet another great pregnancy which I am thankful for!  It is so exciting to see the excitement that C has for the new addition.  He is going to be such a little helper..I am sure his brother will be too!  I am really looking forward to the upcoming year that I will have at home.  Life has seemed super busy these past few months and I am looking forward to the ability to focus even more on family and less on work.  Don't get me wrong, I love my job but it has consumed a large part of our lives the last little while.
I am sure that 2011 is going to be full of many great memories again and I look forward to what it has in store for us and our soon to be family of 5!

From our house to yours, I would like to wish you an amazing 2011 and can't wait to share our journey with you!

P.S. - I really am hoping to focus on posting more regularly once I am on maternity leave!
